The Farmer’s Rail was born from the fields of Brunty Farms and the belief that food should be honest, sustainable, and rooted in community. Nearly 20 years ago, Jeff and Melanie Brunty began their journey with a simple goal: to raise healthy animals on pasture and provide their neighbors with food they could trust. What started with farm-fresh eggs and meats at the local farmers market and an on-farm store quickly grew into something much larger-a commitment to changing the way people think about their food.
As Brunty Farms expanded, so did the Brunties’ vision. They saw the need to control how their animals were processed, ensuring every cut reflected the care given on the farm. In 2018, that vision came to life with the opening of the Farmer’s Rail, Artisanal Meats & Butcher Shop in Bath, Ohio. Farmer-owned and community-driven, it offered more than meats-it offered transparency, craftsmanship, and a direct connection between the farmer and the table.
In 2021, The Farmer’s Rail took its next step in Cuyahoga Falls. This location combined the heart of the butcher shop with the energy of a fast-casual restaurant. A from-scratch kitchen highlights Brunty Farms’ pasture-raised meats in burgers, sandwiches, and salads, served on housemade buns and paired with a carefully crafted cocktail menu. It’s a place where local vendors are supported, conversations are shared, and community is cultivated-with over 250 bourbons to raise a glass to.
The story continued in the heart of Hudson, Ohio with a third location, their second restaurant, that feels like “grandma’s home cooking, but refined.” Here, hand-cut steaks, slow-braised short ribs, homemade pastas, and thoughtfully curated cocktails meet an impressive selection of over 500 bourbons and 150 wines. It’s where tradition meets craftsmanship, and where guests are welcomed as family.
At its core, The Farmer’s Rail is more than a butcher shop or restaurant. It’s a movement back to the roots of food and knowing your farmers, honoring your ingredients, and savoring meals made with care. From farm to table, pasture to plate, our story is about more than what’s on the menu. It’s about building community, one meal at a time.
